IGF-1R

The Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 Receptor (IGF-1R) is a transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase that is activated by its ligand, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). This receptor plays a critical role in mediating growth, development, and survival signals in cells. IGF-1R is essential for normal growth and development during childhood and continues to have anabolic effects in adults. Dysregulation and overexpression of IGF-1R are implicated in several cancers, as they promote cellular proliferation and inhibit apoptosis, contributing to oncogenesis and tumor progression. Consequently, IGF-1R is a target for cancer therapy, with various strategies in development, including antibodies and small molecule inhibitors aimed at blocking its signaling pathway.
