Magainin I is a 23 residue long antimicrobial peptide originally discovered in the skin of Xenopus laevis. It has shown broad-spectrum antibiotic activity, particularly of E. coli, and antifungal activity.Magainin I is believed to form pores in the target bacterial membrane, causing lysis and death.
