Cimetidine(Cat No.:A000206)is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist with the molecular formula C10H16N6S, widely used to reduce stomach acid production. It is prescribed for treating conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. By blocking H2 receptors on gastric parietal cells, cimetidine inhibits histamine-stimulated acid secretion. It is administered orally or intravenously and was one of the first drugs developed for acid-related disorders. Cimetidine may interact with cytochrome P450 enzymes, affecting the metabolism of other drugs. It remains important in gastrointestinal pharmacotherapy despite newer alternatives.
