Sitafloxacin sesquihydrate is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinoline antibiotic that is particularly active against gram-positive bacteria such as a pneumococci.</br>Sitafloxacin has been shown to have a dual targeted mechanism of action. Other antibacterial quinolones target DNA gyrase or topoisomerase IV, but sitafloxacin targets both at a very similar rate. This double-target approach lowers the possibility of resistant strains.
