Montelukast sodium(Cat No.:A000880)is a leukotriene receptor antagonist with the molecular formula C35H37ClNNaO3S, used primarily to manage asthma and allergic rhinitis. It works by selectively blocking cysteinyl leukotriene receptors (CysLT1) in the airways, preventing bronchoconstriction, inflammation, and mucus production triggered by allergens or exercise. Administered orally, typically once daily, montelukast is used as a maintenance therapy rather than for acute asthma attacks. It is well-tolerated in both adults and children, with side effects including headache, abdominal pain, and, rarely, neuropsychiatric symptoms. It improves respiratory function and quality of life in asthma patients.
