3,3/’,5-Triiodo-L-thyronine (T3) is a thyroid hormone generated by deiodination of the prohormone thyroxine (T4). T3 is a potent agonist of both thyroid hormone receptors TRα and TRβ (Kis = 2.3 nM for both). Through TR signaling, T3 modulates such diverse processes as metabolism, cardiac function, growth, and redox signaling. T3 (sodium salt) is used both in vitro and in vivo to study the action of the TRs.
