Levosulpiride(CAT: A001161) is the levo-enantiomer of sulpiride, belonging to the benzamide class of drugs, with prokinetic, antiemetic, and atypical antipsychotic properties. It acts primarily as a selective dopamine D₂ receptor antagonist, with additional antagonism at presynaptic autoreceptors, enhancing dopaminergic transmission in certain brain regions. Clinically, levosulpiride is used to treat dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), irritable bowel syndrome, and functional dyspepsia, as well as depressive and negative symptoms in schizophrenia. It is also effective in managing vertigo and certain anxiety disorders. Levosulpiride’s favorable side effect profile compared to typical antipsychotics makes it a versatile therapeutic in gastroenterology and psychiatry.
