Flutamide (Cat No.: A001038) is a nonsteroidal antiandrogen used primarily to treat prostate cancer. It works by competitively inhibiting androgen receptors, blocking the effects of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) on prostate tumor cells, thereby slowing cancer growth. Flutamide is typically administered orally and used alongside luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonists for maximal androgen blockade. Common side effects include gynecomastia, hot flashes, and gastrointestinal upset. Liver toxicity is a serious risk, requiring regular liver function monitoring during treatment. It is not used in women or children.
