Alvimopan (Cat No.:I001979) is a selective mu-opioid receptor antagonist used to prevent postoperative ileus (POI) in gastrointestinal surgeries. By blocking opioid effects on the gut, it restores normal bowel function, reducing the risk of POI. Administered orally, it is generally well-tolerated but may cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Alvimopan has shown efficacy in clinical studies and is approved for this indication in several countries. It is a valuable therapeutic option in managing POI and improving postoperative recovery in patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgeries.
