ACT-678689 (CAT: I016439) is a potent tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH) inhibitor with an IC50 of 8 nM. TPH is the rate-limiting enzyme in serotonin biosynthesis and exists as two isoforms: TPH2, predominantly expressed in neuronal cells of the central nervous system (CNS), and TPH1, mainly localized in peripheral tissues such as enterochromaffin (EC) cells of the gut.
