Water-17O (Cat No.:M062827) is a stable isotopologue of water in which the oxygen atom is the rare ¹⁷O isotope, comprising only about 0.037% of natural oxygen. It is used primarily in research applications, particularly in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, due to the ¹⁷O nucleus having a nuclear spin (I = 5/2), making it suitable for studying oxygen environments in molecules and materials. Water-17O is also used in tracer studies for metabolic and physiological processes, hydrology, and reaction mechanisms. Because of its low natural abundance, it is typically enriched and expensive to produce.
