Tris(2-phenylpyridine)iridium(Cat No.:L045016), commonly abbreviated as Ir(ppy)₃, is a phosphorescent organometallic complex with the formula Ir(C₆H₄–C₅H₄N)₃. It consists of a central iridium(III) ion coordinated to three 2-phenylpyridine ligands through cyclometalation. Known for its high photoluminescence efficiency, Ir(ppy)₃ emits green light and is widely used in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), especially in display and lighting technologies. Its strong spin–orbit coupling facilitates efficient intersystem crossing, enabling phosphorescence from triplet states. Ir(ppy)₃ also finds application in photocatalysis and photophysics research. It is typically a green crystalline solid, stable under inert conditions, and requires careful handling.
