(Trimethylsilyl)diazomethane(CAT: M086760) is a yellow, volatile liquid with the formula C₄H₁₀N₂Si, widely used as a safer alternative to diazomethane in organic synthesis. It serves as a highly reactive methylating agent, converting carboxylic acids into methyl esters and facilitating cyclopropanation, epoxidation, and other carbene-transfer reactions. The trimethylsilyl group stabilizes the diazomethane functionality, reducing its explosive hazard while maintaining strong reactivity under mild conditions. Soluble in common organic solvents, it is often employed in solution with hexane or ether.
