Tri-n-octylamine(CAT: M046517) is a high-molecular-weight, tertiary aliphatic amine composed of three linear n-octyl chains bonded to a central nitrogen atom. It is a clear, hydrophobic liquid widely used as a phase transfer catalyst, extractant, and ion-pairing agent in organic synthesis and separation processes. Due to its strong affinity for metal ions and organic acids, tri-n-octylamine is frequently employed in solvent extraction of rare earth elements, uranium, and other metal complexes. It is also utilized in pharmaceutical manufacturing, surfactant synthesis, and as a stabilizer in polymer formulations.
