Transfluthrin(CAT: M030317) is an insecticide and is a member of the pyrethroid family of compounds. Transfluthrin is commonly used as a mosquito repellent and is also effective against other flying and crawling insects. It works by attacking the nervous system of insects, causing paralysis and eventually death. Transfluthrin has low toxicity to humans and mammals and is therefore considered safe for use in household insecticides and mosquito repellents. However, it is toxic to aquatic organisms and should not be used near bodies of water. Transfluthrin is commonly formulated as an aerosol spray, mosquito coils, or impregnated into mosquito nets for use in tropical and subtropical regions where mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue fever are prevalent.
