Ruthenium(III) chloride (CAT: R027048)) is a dark reddish-brown, crystalline inorganic compound that serves as an important catalyst precursor in both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. It exists in both hydrated and anhydrous forms, with the hydrated version (RuCl₃·xH₂O) being more common in laboratory use. RuCl₃ is widely employed in oxidation, hydrogenation, and metathesis reactions, as well as in the synthesis of organoruthenium complexes for pharmaceutical and materials research. Its versatility extends to electrochemical applications, thin-film deposition, and dye-sensitized solar cells.
