Raffinose(CAT: I016746) is a natural trisaccharide composed of galactose, glucose, and fructose, commonly found in legumes, whole grains, and certain vegetables. As a member of the raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs), it functions in plants as a carbohydrate reserve and stress protectant. In biochemical research, raffinose is widely used as a standard for carbohydrate metabolism studies, enzymology, and gut microbiota investigations. It is indigestible by humans due to the absence of α-galactosidase but serves as a fermentable substrate for intestinal microflora. Raffinose is also applied in cryopreservation, osmoprotection, food science, and plant physiology research.
