PTO2 is a wide bandgap alternating copolymer composed of electron-donating benzodithiophene (BDT) and electron-withdrawing thiophene carboxylate ester units. Its simple structure provides excellent solubility in eco-friendly non-halogenated solvents such as xylenes and THF, enabling greener processing routes. In organic photovoltaics, PTO2 demonstrates efficient charge generation at low driving force, achieving a power conversion efficiency of 14.7% in single-junction devices with IT-4F as the non-fullerene acceptor. Offering comparable performance to benchmark donors like PBDB-T-2F (PM6) and PTB7-Th, PTO2 stands out as a cost-effective alternative with strong potential for next-generation, high-efficiency organic solar cells.
