PTB7 is a high-performance donor polymer for organic photovoltaics, delivering some of the highest reported efficiencies in polymer:fullerene solar cells. Its extended absorption into the near-infrared region and lower HOMO level enable strong light harvesting and enhanced device performance. With excellent solubility across multiple solvents, PTB7 is highly versatile, supporting spin coating, ink-jet printing, spray coating, and blade coating techniques. Reported power conversion efficiencies reach up to 9.2% in optimized device architectures, while standard conditions yield consistent results around 6.8–7.4%. PTB7 remains a cost-effective and reliable material for advancing research in organic solar cells and next-generation OPV technologies.
