Platinum bis(acetylacetonate)(Cat No.:M057919), often written as Pt(acac)₂, is a coordination compound where a platinum(II) center is chelated by two acetylacetonate ligands. This yellow to orange crystalline solid is widely used as a precursor in organometallic synthesis, homogeneous catalysis, and materials science. Its stable, planar structure makes it useful in thin-film deposition, particularly in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes for platinum-based coatings and nanomaterials. Platinum bis(acetylacetonate) is also explored in electrochemical and catalytic studies due to its solubility in organic solvents and ability to decompose cleanly under thermal or reductive conditions.
