Tranexamic acid(CAT: A001144) is a synthetic lysine analogue (C₈H₁₅NO₂) that functions as an antifibrinolytic agent by competitively inhibiting the activation of plasminogen to plasmin, the enzyme responsible for fibrin degradation. By stabilizing blood clots, it is widely used to prevent or reduce bleeding in surgical procedures, trauma, postpartum hemorrhage, and in conditions such as menorrhagia and hereditary angioedema. It can be administered orally, intravenously, or topically. In dermatology, tranexamic acid is also employed for its ability to reduce hyperpigmentation by modulating melanogenesis. Its safety profile, potency, and versatility make it an important therapeutic in both acute care and chronic condition management.
