Pantoprazole sulfone(CAT: R047658) is the primary oxidative metabolite of pantoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat acid-related gastrointestinal disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcers. Formed via hepatic metabolism, pantoprazole sulfone retains the benzimidazole-sulfoxide core structure but features an additional oxygen atom, converting the sulfoxide moiety to a sulfone. While it is pharmacologically inactive against the gastric H⁺/K⁺-ATPase, its presence is important in pharmacokinetic and metabolic studies. Measurement of pantoprazole sulfone in plasma and urine aids in understanding drug metabolism, clearance, and potential drug–drug interactions in clinical and research settings.
