N,O-Bis(trimethylsilyl)acetamide (Cat No.:M064831) is a colorless to pale yellow liquid widely used as a silylating reagent in analytical and synthetic chemistry. It features trimethylsilyl groups bonded to both the nitrogen and oxygen atoms of an acetamide backbone. BSA is primarily employed to derivatize active hydrogen-containing compounds—such as alcohols, amines, and carboxylic acids—by converting them into their corresponding trimethylsilyl (TMS) derivatives. This improves volatility and thermal stability, making analytes more suitable for gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS). BSA reacts quickly under mild conditions and must be handled in moisture-free environments.
