Nepafenac (Cat No.: A001187) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used in ophthalmology to manage pain and inflammation following cataract surgery. It is a prodrug that penetrates the cornea and is converted into its active form, amfenac, which inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis. This action helps alleviate inflammation and prevent complications like cystoid macular edema. Administered as an eye drop, nepafenac is generally well-tolerated. Possible side effects include eye irritation, increased intraocular pressure, and, rarely, delayed wound healing or corneal issues.
