MitTx(CAT: I040242) is a potent, heteromeric peptide complex composed of MitTx-α and MitTx-β subunits, originally isolated from snake venom. It functions as a highly selective activator of acid-sensing ion channel 1 (ASIC1) isoforms, with EC₅₀ values of 9.4 nM for ASIC1a and 23 nM for ASIC1b under neutral pH conditions. While exhibiting strong selectivity for ASIC1 at physiological pH, MitTx also amplifies proton-evoked activation of ASIC2a under acidic conditions. MitTx is an invaluable tool for studying ASIC gating mechanisms, pain signaling pathways, and acid-mediated neuronal excitability in both physiological and pathological states.
