Nitrofen(Cat No.:R026161)is a diphenyl ether herbicide historically used for pre- and post-emergence control of broadleaf and grass weeds. It disrupts photosynthesis by inhibiting photosystem II electron transport, leading to impaired chlorophyll function and plant death. Although once applied in rice, soybean, and vegetable crops, its agricultural use has been discontinued in many countries due to persistence, bioaccumulation, and concerns about carcinogenicity and environmental toxicity. In research, nitrofen remains important as a reference compound in toxicology, developmental biology, and studies on herbicide action and resistance.
