Macrozamin(CAT: I016749) is a naturally occurring toxic glucoside belonging to the cycasin group, isolated from cycads (Cycas species). It consists of a methylazoxymethanol (MAM) moiety bound to a glucose unit and is known as a potent carcinogenic and hepatotoxic compound. Upon metabolic activation, Macrozamin releases MAM, which alkylates DNA and disrupts cellular processes, leading to mutagenic and cytotoxic effects. It has been widely studied in toxicology, chemical carcinogenesis, and natural product chemistry as a model compound for environmental toxins. Macrozamin is a valuable research tool for investigating cycad toxicity, DNA damage pathways, and mechanisms of chemically induced carcinogenesis.
