L-(–)-Lactide(CAT: R055102) is the cyclic dimer of L-lactic acid and a key monomer for producing poly(L-lactide) (PLLA), a semi-crystalline biodegradable polymer widely used in biomedical materials. With its well-defined stereochemistry, L-(–)-lactide enables the synthesis of polymers with high tensile strength, slow degradation, and excellent biocompatibility. PLLA derived from L-(–)-lactide is extensively applied in resorbable sutures, orthopedic fixation devices, drug delivery systems, and tissue engineering scaffolds. The stereochemical purity of L-(–)-lactide also allows it to form stereocomplexes with D-(+)-lactide, creating materials with enhanced crystallinity and thermal stability. This makes L-(–)-lactide an indispensable building block for advanced bioresorbable medical devices.
