Kanamycin sulfate (Cat No.: I007478) is a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, particularly those caused by Gram-negative bacteria. It works by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting protein synthesis and leading to bacterial cell death. Administered via injection or topically, it is also used in laboratory settings to select genetically modified organisms. Common side effects include nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity, especially with prolonged use or high doses. Monitoring kidney function and hearing is recommended during treatment. Resistance may develop with overuse.
