Isoamyl alcohol (Cat No.: R016695), also known as isopentyl alcohol, is a colorless, flammable organic liquid with a strong, pungent odor. It is one of the major components of fusel oil, a byproduct of alcoholic fermentation. Isoamyl alcohol is used as a solvent and intermediate in the synthesis of flavors, fragrances, and pharmaceuticals. Notably, it is a key precursor in the production of isoamyl acetate, a compound with a characteristic banana-like scent. It also finds use in laboratory protocols, including DNA extraction.
