Hydroxy-p-tolylacetic acid(CAT: M079091), also known as (4-hydroxyphenyl)acetic acid, is an organic compound consisting of a hydroxy-substituted phenyl ring (para to a methyl group) attached to an acetic acid side chain. This molecule is commonly used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and fine chemicals. Its phenolic hydroxyl group offers reactivity for esterification and etherification, while the carboxylic acid moiety enables amidation and coupling reactions. Due to its structural similarity to natural metabolites like tyrosine, hydroxy-p-tolylacetic acid is also studied in biochemical and metabolic research.
