Glutaric acid (Cat No.: R014384) is a five-carbon dicarboxylic acid. It consists of a linear chain terminated by two carboxyl groups, making it useful in polymer and chemical synthesis, particularly in the production of polyesters and polyamides. It is also an intermediate in the metabolism of certain amino acids. In biomedical contexts, abnormal accumulation of glutaric acid is associated with glutaric aciduria type I, a rare metabolic disorder. Glutaric acid is water-soluble, crystalline, and mildly acidic in nature.
