Exametazime(Cat No.:M008426), also known as hexamethylpropyleneamine oxime (HMPAO), is a lipophilic radiopharmaceutical compound with the molecular formula C13H28N4O2, used primarily in nuclear medicine for brain imaging. When labeled with technetium-99m (as Tc-99m exametazime), it crosses the blood-brain barrier and localizes in brain tissue, allowing assessment of regional cerebral blood flow via SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography). It is commonly used in diagnosing stroke, epilepsy, and dementia. Exametazime is also used for labeling leukocytes to detect sites of infection or inflammation. Proper handling and radiation safety protocols are essential during preparation and use.
