Diisobutylaluminum hydride (Cat No.:R032755) is a selective and powerful reducing agent used extensively in organic synthesis. It appears as a colorless to yellowish liquid, typically supplied in solution with toluene or hexane. DIBAL-H is highly effective at reducing esters, nitriles, and acid chlorides to aldehydes under controlled conditions, and it can also reduce other functional groups to alcohols. Its mildness and selectivity make it a valuable tool in the synthesis of complex molecules, including pharmaceuticals. Due to its pyrophoric nature, it must be handled under inert atmosphere with strict safety precautions.
