Desoxycarbadox(Cat No.:R059845)is a biologically active metabolite of carbadox, an antibacterial agent used primarily in swine production to control bacterial enteritis and promote growth. It exhibits antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and some Gram-negative bacteria by interfering with bacterial DNA synthesis. Desoxycarbadox is formed through metabolic reduction of carbadox and is considered to retain pharmacological activity. However, due to concerns over potential genotoxicity and carcinogenicity, its presence in edible tissues is strictly regulated. It is primarily studied in veterinary pharmacokinetics, residue analysis, and risk assessment related to food safety in animal products.
