COTIC-4Cl is an ultra-narrow bandgap n-type semiconductor designed for next-generation organic optoelectronic devices. Its molecular structure features an electron-rich cyclopentadithiophene (CPDT) donor core, alkoxythienyl spacers, and two IC-2Cl terminal acceptor units. Compared to COTIC-4F, COTIC-4Cl exhibits extended near-infrared (NIR) absorption, spanning ~600–1400 nm, with a strong absorption band and an optical bandgap of ~1.0 eV. This makes it especially suitable for organic photodiodes requiring spectral response beyond 1000 nm. Ternary OPDs using PCE10:COTIC-4Cl:PC₇₁BM active layers have achieved a detectivity (D*) of 5 × 10¹² Jones and responsivity (R) of 0.30 A W⁻¹ at 1100 nm.
