Z-907 dye (cis-Ru(H₂dcbpy)(dnbpy)(NCS)₂) is a ruthenium-based amphiphilic sensitizer widely applied in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). It features 4,4′-dicarboxylic acid-2,2′-bipyridine (H₂dcbpy) and 4,4′-dinonyl-2,2′-bipyridine (dnbpy) ligands, with two long hydrophobic alkyl chains that provide an insulating barrier to suppress charge recombination while enhancing interfacial stability. This structural design improves thermal durability and long-term device performance. DSSCs employing Z-907 dye with co-adsorbents such as hexadecyl phosphonic acid have demonstrated excellent stability, maintaining ~7% efficiency after 1,000 hours of continuous ageing at 80 °C. Owing to these properties, Z-907 dye is regarded as a benchmark material for durable, high-efficiency DSSCs.
