(Chlorosulfonyl)benzoic acid(CAT: R045767) is an aromatic compound that contains both a chlorosulfonyl (-SO₂Cl) and a carboxylic acid (-COOH) functional group attached to a benzene ring. This bifunctional structure makes it highly reactive and useful as a synthetic intermediate in the production of sulfonamides, pharmaceutical agents, dyes, and specialty polymers. The chlorosulfonyl group readily undergoes substitution with nucleophiles such as amines and alcohols to form sulfonyl derivatives, while the carboxylic acid group allows for esterification or amidation reactions. Typically supplied as a crystalline solid, (chlorosulfonyl)benzoic acid is moisture-sensitive and should be handled under controlled conditions.
