Butyltin trichloride (Cat No.:R025083) is an organotin compound with the molecular formula C4H9Cl3Sn. It consists of a tin atom bonded to one butyl group and three chlorine atoms, appearing as a colorless to yellowish liquid or solid, depending on conditions. This compound is primarily used as an intermediate in the production of organotin stabilizers for PVC, catalysts, and biocides. It is highly reactive with moisture, releasing hydrochloric acid upon hydrolysis. Due to its toxicity and corrosiveness, it must be handled with appropriate safety precautions under dry, inert conditions.
