Amifostine trihydrate(Cat No.:I002179)is a cytoprotective prodrug that is dephosphorylated by alkaline phosphatase to its active thiol metabolite, WR-1065. This metabolite scavenges free radicals and provides selective protection to normal tissues against radiation-induced and chemotherapy-induced toxicity, while sparing tumor cells. Clinically, amifostine trihydrate is used to reduce xerostomia in head and neck cancer radiotherapy and to mitigate nephrotoxicity from cisplatin-based chemotherapy. In research, it serves as a key agent for exploring protective strategies against oxidative stress, DNA damage, and apoptosis in oncology and radiobiology studies.
