alpha-Amanitin - CAS 23109-05-9

Alpha-Amanitin(CAT: I002762) is a toxic cyclic peptide that is produced by certain species of mushrooms, particularly the death cap mushroom (Amanita phalloides). It is considered one of the most lethal toxins found in nature, with a lethal dose estimated to be around 0.1 mg/kg of body weight. Alpha-Amanitin works by inhibiting RNA polymerase II, an enzyme that is responsible for transcribing DNA into mRNA, ultimately leading to the inhibition of protein synthesis and cell death. Due to its extreme toxicity, alpha-Amanitin has been used in research as a tool for studying RNA polymerase II function and in developing targeted anticancer therapies.
