Acetyl anhydride(Cat No.: M069380), also known as acetic anhydride, is a colorless, volatile liquid with a pungent odor. It is a highly reactive acetylating agent widely used in organic synthesis to introduce acetyl groups into alcohols and amines, forming esters and amides. Common applications include the production of cellulose acetate, pharmaceuticals (such as aspirin), and dyes. Due to its reactivity with water, it must be handled under dry conditions. Acetyl anhydride is also used in laboratory-scale peptide synthesis and chemical research.
