9-Fluorenylmethyl chlorocarbonate (CAT: R042558) is a widely used reagent in solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) for the Fmoc (9-fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl) protection of amino groups. It reacts readily with primary and secondary amines under mild basic conditions to form stable Fmoc-carbamate derivatives. Fmoc-Cl is highly valued for its orthogonal deprotection strategy, as the Fmoc group can be removed using mild bases like piperidine without affecting acid-sensitive protecting groups. Beyond peptide synthesis, it is also employed in organic synthesis for protecting amines in multi-step synthetic routes.
