4-Octylphenol(Cat No.:R013464)is an alkylphenol compound consisting of a phenol ring substituted with a linear or branched octyl chain at the para (4) position. It is primarily used as an intermediate in the production of surfactants, resins, and plastic additives. Due to its amphiphilic nature, it enhances emulsifying and dispersing properties in industrial formulations. However, 4-octylphenol is also recognized as an endocrine-disrupting chemical (EDC), capable of mimicking estrogenic activity, leading to environmental and regulatory concerns. It typically appears as a white to pale solid and is sparingly soluble in water.
