4-Nitrophenol(CAT: R048975) is an aromatic organic compound consisting of a phenol ring substituted with a nitro group at the para (4-) position. It appears as a pale yellow crystalline solid and is widely used as a precursor and intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, dyes, pesticides, and fine chemicals. Due to its acidic hydroxyl group and electron-withdrawing nitro group, 4-nitrophenol participates readily in electrophilic substitution, nucleophilic reactions, and reduction processes (e.g., conversion to 4-aminophenol). It is also commonly used as a colorimetric substrate in enzyme assays.
