Spiro-OMeTAD is a benchmark hole transport layer (HTL) material widely used in organic–inorganic electronic devices. Its spiro-linked structure imparts a high glass transition temperature (Tg), excellent morphological stability, and ease of processing while preserving favorable charge-transport properties. Renowned for its versatility, Spiro-OMeTAD has become the most studied HTL in perovskite solar cells (PSCs), where it delivers outstanding power conversion efficiency and stability. Beyond PSCs, it is also employed in solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (ssDSSCs), organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), and polymer-based organic solar cells (OSCs), making it a cornerstone material in advanced optoelectronic applications.
