1,4-Phenylenediamine(CAT: R052444), also known as para-phenylenediamine (PPD), is an aromatic amine with the molecular formula C₆H₈N₂. It consists of a benzene ring substituted with two amino groups at the 1 and 4 positions, forming a colorless to pale purple crystalline solid that darkens upon air exposure due to oxidation. PPD is widely used as an intermediate in the manufacture of dyes, hair colorants, rubber antioxidants, and polymers. It plays a critical role in the synthesis of azo dyes and high-performance aramid fibers like Kevlar. Due to its sensitizing potential, it must be handled with caution in cosmetic and industrial applications.
