18-Crown-6(Cat No.:R050682)is a cyclic polyether with the molecular formula C₁₂H₂₄O₆, consisting of a ring of twelve carbon atoms and six oxygen atoms. Its structure allows it to selectively bind metal cations, especially potassium (K⁺), by coordinating through its oxygen atoms. This crown ether is widely used in phase-transfer catalysis, ion transport studies, and coordination chemistry. It enhances the solubility of ionic compounds in organic solvents and facilitates nucleophilic substitution reactions. 18-Crown-6 is a white crystalline solid, soluble in polar organic solvents, and plays a vital role in supramolecular and host–guest chemistry.
